11 months later and we've heard not another word about this near complete game that suspiciously wasn't given a release platform. Could wait til after E3 for 100% certainty, but cmon, we know Zelda is taking all the spotlight even above Pokemon, and there's no way Miyamoto would allow this game to be announced behind the scenes like Codename Steam was. Remember Pikmin 3 was the opening game at E3 2012 and was hyped up as a huge deal, even though sales have never reflected that. This is one of those times where Miyamoto being Miyamoto is a good thing, as quality-wise Pikmin is totally deserving of the hype, easily up there with Mario Zelda Metroid and the like. Thus, if it was a Wii U game, it would be at E3 in a major way, but it wont be, because it's not a Wii U game.
Additionally we now know the NX release date, which is also the date Nintendo would never release anymore Wii U or 3DS games after. Since it'd be silly to release Pikmin 4 in January-March rather than the holidays which are especially bare with the Zelda delay, that means as a Wii U game it would have to release within the next 7 months. The problem with this is why on earth would they hold back on the announcement for so long? They said it was near complete in July last year, which means it could have been revealed even sooner and is probably finished already. They really do not have the luxury of holding out on what would be their only great Wii U game in 2016. Even Color Trash was revealed already and will probably release around the holidays aswell. It only makes sense that the reason Pikmin hasn't already been revealed is because it can't be since the consoles it's for hasn't been shown yet.
Plus if not at E3, then there's literally no other time for Pikmin U to be announced since the next major event will definitely be the NX reveal, and from that point onwards that's all Nintendo themselves will talk about. We're already seeing this, as Zelda only E3 even over Pokemon is most definitely because Zelda is also a NX title and thus a way to promote it, and Gamefreak has been having to promote Sun/Moon by themselves and seperated from general Nintendo. The last game that was initially talked about then suddenly went silent turned out to be a NX game afterall, so of course they're gonna do that with another high profile game that wasn't even shown or given a console and already had a recent installment. It would actually be really stupid for them to put Pikmin 4 on Wii U at this point. I bet it's not just Pikmin but other games aswell that they're just sitting on waiting for the NX reveal.
Tl;dr, it's impossible for Pikmin 4 to not be a NX game at this point, only becoming even more impossible with each passing day.
