To me I love every gta.  But I don't let nostalgia cloud my judgment.  They control horribly now.  The gameplay is the definition of basic.

It doesn't get more basic than fetch quests and GTA 5 is full of them. Full of cutscenes too where the game wrestles control away from you. Not to say a game like Vice City or San Andreas didn't have them but there were plenty of little minigames to break up the monotony.

If gta V was the first gta you played as a kid I guarantee you'd love it.

Probably. As a kid, I probably wouldn't know any better.

Your comment about getting good is funny,  how about you get good at the online and enjoy it instead of complaining about assholes.  Like not as if they do anything out of the ordinary in the world of gta.

I can do more about bad controls than assholes online. There's almost no fixing assholes.

The ps2 GTAs were full of a ton of very basic missions too.  But I loved them just like I love gta V.

Gta V has way more minigames then the old GTAs.  Problem for you is they are online.  whether it's,  missions,  heists or the many mini games there is so much fun to be had online and unlike the ps2 days you can do it with your friends.

I love the cutscenes in the single player just like I did in GTA4.  I'm a fan of the whole series.  Sadly for you replaying the old games sounds like your future with it.
