That's why I am not buying retail games for any console as a digital download. (1). The will probably not work on the next console and (2). who knows how long I can download it on the older one. (3.). Also Nintendo is kinda behind all the others and ties the games to the console instead of the account.

I would like to have a system like the PC where I can still play most games until today which where bought more than a decade ago.

(1). DSi to 3DS and Wii to Wii U transfers just fine so why suspect newer consoles won't?

(2). I can still download games on the Wii from 2006.

(3). Nintendo has a new cross platform account system.

(1). So far, it worked because on the WII U the WII OS is being emulated. Lost Winds on the other hand couldn't be ported to the WII U and is lost forever.  Emulating the WII U hardware will be more difficult to do, so I don't believe the NX will have backwards compatibility and you won't be able to move your games to the new console. But, this is still speculation so far. We only had 2 Generations were it was possible to move on.

(2). That's good. But for how long will it be the case?

(3). Which we know nothing about.
