It is not a penalty, it is an extra incentive for the developers for making a great effort in order to make a great game.

In the entertainment business, there will always be reviewers of the content so it is indeed a serious aspect of the game.

It is not a ridiculous policy by any means.

Making a great game is not a guarantee against getting screwed over by an outlier.

The problems lies in the outlet, not the developer.

If the publisher says that they are going to give the developers a bonus if the game reaches a certain score, why is it a ridiculous policy?

This happens in every job.

Hell, even the people that flip burgers on a Mc Donalds can reach the Employee of the Month if they exceed and do their work right.

Do you have a job in real life?
