Seriously, he'd have every right to not answer questions or identify himself (depending on what state he was in) but that probably would have gotten him on a terrorism watch list, and he needs to be able to fly.
The bottom line is that terrorism sucks, Americans hate dealing with the minority of the religious group that commits most of these acts, but we want better detection and to avoid fingerings the wrong person.
