E3 is like christmas and gamers are like children who refuse to believe that Santa Claus isn't real.

In the age of widespread internet, the date of announcement isn't important anymore. Everyone can access information every day without a hassle. We are long past the days of video game magazines being the go-to source for information about new consoles and games.

I know people would love to believe that E3 makes or breaks consoles and games, but Nintendo has been traditionally absent from the Tokyo Game Show, yet still is the most successful console manufacturer and video game publisher in Japan even during this generation. Meanwhile, they've attended E3 every year. You'll be hard pressed to find a correlation between (quality of) presence at trade shows and market performance.

They are completely connected, if someone have a big game they will reveal it at E3, and them the main public will see and purchase it, The marker isn't like this only Hardcore gamers follow gaming news every day but the average consumer only see the gaming news on some sites like IGN and in some events like E3, Nintendo is the market leader of the Handheld market and this is worldwide not just in Japan 3DS sold more than 20 Millions of units in Japan, as you can see in this other thread http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=212228 Nintendo is the biggest publisher of Japan every year since 1998,  and  don't atend to TGS isn't enought to take that away from them, but the Worldwide market is much bigger and change much faster than Japan, if someone make any mistake then the competition use the mistake against them and take their Market Share.

P.S Santa Claus exist.
