| kowenicki said: To continue to get funding for research... obviously. When I was at school Scientists said we would have another ice age by now... Scientists are fickle. Climate change is real. It always has been, its always been here. Medieval Europe was warm from 1000 to 1200, this was followed by a mini ice age from 1500 to 1700. Must have been all those trucks and aerosols the Tudor used. |
Scientists said there would be another ice age ?
First of all why do people think that scientist are like this uniform mass of people all saying the same thing ?
Scientists are hundreds of thousands more or less clever people all with their own unique opinion. And this battle of ideas results in progress. Scientists are fickle because our knowledge and the facts are growing. And thus their theories and predicitons constantly change.
Some Scientists are retards and often media is twisting words of scientists to get a more sensational headline. I always check the source of any science article. As often those articles are utter bullshit.
However the truth is being uncovered slowly and they can reach a consensus in things. The ice age thing I hear for the first time and I am sure some (maybe even just one small group of scientists had a theory) Doubt that alot of scientists agreed on that.
Climate Change happened in the past. However based on observation and measurements most scientists agree that there is a measurable impact caused by human technology and the changes we recorded in the last years and decades are drastic.
Fact is that scientists are the reason why we have modern medicine, technology and all our comfort.
Without the scientific basis there would be no way any of our life could work as we need working theories and knowledge to build up on it and engineer things.
The fact is that there is more and more CO2 in the atmosphere and we are slowly reaching the CO2 levels of the past. Currently we are in an iceage (it means there is Ice on the surface of the earth) However this is changing fast and without surface Ice we will have drastically higher sea levels.
I understand people are often overwhelmed actually getting to the core of the information and are often not properly knowledgeable and can not discern proper science from nut jobs which is why science has such a bad reputation.
The thing is our economy our whole lifestyle is dependant on all those guys and funnily enough they have a very bad reputation as a group because the majority of people simply do not understand the scientific process.
