...I swear people sometimes forget these are just a couple pieces of cheap hardware to play video games on. You'd think we were renouncing our citizenship, jumping from Catholic to Protestant or vice versa, or defecting to another country lol

You can own both, there's not been a generation since gen 4 (only had the genesis) that I've not had at least two of the consoles for most of that generation. I would say right now that Sony has the most comprehensive library of the three consoles, but Nintendo still has Nintendo games and if you're a fan of them you'll keep getting those consoles. What does it really matter which console is your "primary"?

The fact that people consider themselves Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo fans proves that these gaming consoles are NOT just boxes of electronics, but communities of like minded individuals who are supporting there choice. As far as I know, people don't collect TV'S or toasters or microwaves to the extent that gaming consoles are collected.

Well they each have their own games and personalities, but people who allow themselves to become worked up by this are just silly.

Really, these heated console debates have their roots in children, as most of us were stuck with just one at the time and had to defend our selection against those other options we'd never have. It was silly and petty but, hey, we were kids, that's what kids do.

That full grown adults still get that swept up in it is, to be frank, a little embarassing. It's possible to have preferences without holding hostile feelings towards the others, and it really shouldn't warrant these kind of melodramatic declarations.
