Yeah, a few times. First time was with the SNES. For me, gaming was just a time waster and something to play with friends. It wasn't that important to me, even though I had a lot of fun with the NES. I just wasn't feeling the SNES except for Zelda and a few other titles. It started "collecting dust". So many games were simplistic and shallow back then.
Final Fantasy 6 brought me back--I wasn't even looking for more games but I found it in a used store while with a friend and I'd loved the original Final Fantasy, so I bought it. That resulted in me buying a PS1 for Final Fantasy 7 and enjoying the best gaming period of my life. That's when I began to think of myself as a "gamer".
Another period was when the PS2 was winding down. The new consoles had tons of problems and were expensive so I ignored console gaming for awhile. A friend of mine got me into MMOs eventually, though, so I went that route for a few years.
