Scientists are fickle.

Climate change is real. It always has been, its always been here. Medieval Europe was warm from 1000 to 1200, this was followed by a mini ice age from 1500 to 1700. Must have been all those trucks and aerosols the Tudor used.

Of course climate change has been happening for all of history. But this is different, obviously different.

 

Most people can tell you that C02 levels aren't the only thing that cause climate change, but they have been closesly tied with the Earths climate for as long as we can meassure. C02 levels naturally rise and fall over time in a cyclical fashion, which is caused by, and helps accelerate, changes in the Earths temperature. There is a pretty interesting process to this. But it's rather complicated to explain, and isn't really necessary to understand the point here.

So, it's easy for someone to say "this happens naturally, so we aren't doing anything." The issue with that, is there are certain rules here that aren't been followed. Though there are occasionally spikes and dips in C02 levels (and surface temperature), there is normally a pretty stable basement, and ceiling for C02 levels. With the bottom being around 180 ppm (parts per million) and the ceiling being about 300 ppm.

We are currently at about 400 ppm.

So yes, the Earth does naturally warm and cool, C02 levels also naturally fluctuate. But, going by the Earths natural cycle...the Earth should be getting colder, not warmer.
