I cringed so much. It was painful to watch at the time but it's even worse watching it a second time over. It's a shame, Kinect had such potential but it was pushed beyond it's capabilities and as a result gained a poor reputation. I genuinely had good fun with Kinect, from Kinect adventures to ubisoft's fitness game and even voice options in Mass Effect.
For me, the kinect on XB1 genuinely enhances the OS experience but that's only the voice control side of things and IR blaster. If they make an XB 1.5 they should add a IR blaster and mic extension. The voice controls are for me, the best bits about Kinect. I loved the voice options in Mass Effect. I love being able to say 'Xbox On/Off' without touching a controller. I love being in the heat of gameplay and saying 'Xbox Record That/take a screenshot'. The voice stuff is genuinely useful and it's made special precisely because you don't need to hold the controller or use an in-ear/over-the-head mic. The camera stuff isn't really necessary.
