Yeah it was bad from the premise. OP assumes Nintendo on its good day wins automatically and mainstream still care about Nintendo. Fact is Nintendo has been getting less and less relevant over the years, not more popular. The franchises they use have become predictable, even if they brought back Metroid and it looked awesome, Sony has an answer. Sony's conferences are more exciting and have more surprising announcements and they don't just limit it to E3 season like Nintendo and MS. There's things to look foward to year round with E3, TGS, Gamescom/PGW, PSX. Playstation is expanding rapidly with PSN now making more money than all of Nintendo, embracing 3rd parties and non-Playstation hardware with PS Now, Vue etc. Nintendo on the other hand feels like they have holed themselves up milking whatever's left of their hardcore fans with Amiibos, and their mobile effort looks to be too little too late, with Miitomo already off the charts. Nintendo lost the marketshare this gen and now start losing mindshare as well missing E3, not having anything this holiday etc. Whatever NX is it needs to generate Wii level hype because the CoD/Fifa crowd isn't gonna get a Nintendo system just because "hey we do 1080p too now guyz! it looks betta than yo ps4" |
