How? I'm not saying they aren't good game by the way. But honestly, what big new ideas have either of them brought? 

One is the first competitive Nintendo game, some would consider ever (being they consider Smash a party game). It certainly is Nintendo's first real jump into online multiplayer. The other is the first creator game of a major ip.
