I think March is actually an excellent time to launch as long as the system and games are good. You'll get some launch sales regardless of time of year from fans. Then you'll get holiday sales from the rest. It's like two holidays in one year. Launch hype is actually wasted at Christmas, and a product launched in March will still be fresh.
Further, Nintendo needs to get the word out about this product, and that may take time. They also need to establish a user base so 3rd party games don't flop. A march launch could be good for this.
