I guess it's legacy depends on who you ask.
For some it will be
- that failed add-on to the Wii.
- the lowest selling Nintendo home console to date (depending on how the NX performs)
- the first console they ever had and enjoyed many games on
- their last Nintendo console
- an underappreciated console that produced some really great games
- remembered for the couch multiplayer games like Mario Kart 8, Smash 4, SM3DW, NSMBU, Rayman Legends, Nintendo Land or the party games
- an underpowered machine that couldn't live up to it's potential
- loved/dreaded for the multitude of controllers
At the end I hope people that played on the Wii U remember it for it's games.
I definitely will remember the fun I had playing together with my niece.
