Some advice, just don't lock on to anything. Seriously, you're going to save yourself a lot of aggravation.

Except for the final boss. Lock on for that.

Also, have the gyro set to off in flying vehicles and on on land vehicles. I know that sounds convoluted, but you know, 'tis Star Fox Zero.

I'd advice the contrary. Try to use the lock-on method in the boss fights. It was confusing at first, but being capable of knowing what the boss is doing in the main screen and find an opening to attack worked for me. When I was trying to achieve high scores, it was the quickest method, by miles. I didn't try to set off gyro controls on flying vehicles, I'll try that and see if it works, although I have no problems with gyro controls in general.

I'd say that the controls are not a problem for me in this game. As a matter of fact, it was plus for me. I'm more dissapointed with the level design, maybe. It's fun, but the alternate paths have been weak compared to SF64.  There were some neat, epic moments and some cool dogfights; but it lacks more planets and bosses (most of them were just recycling the main game bosses, which was really dissapointing)... In the end, I think it's a good game, it's fun, and after playing 10 hours, I'd score it with a 7.5/10. I'm not Metacritic, that's a good score in my book XD.
