| torok said: Your argument is flawed. Liking it or not, they could still just release a regular PS4 game with zero improvements, since PS4K runs all previous PS4-only games without issues. Even if it is a PITA, they cannot ignore the bigger install base. PS2 was a PITA compared to the OG Xbox and that didn't changed the fact that PS2 had a lot of 3rd party exclusives. Devs may complain as they wish, but the guy who makes the decision is a high-up that is looking at install bases and sales. He choses the platforms and he decides. You also are overestimating the Win 10 Dev mode. On X1, right now, it only allows to create universal apps, that will indeed run without changes between platforms. However, they use an abstraction layer with severe limitations (like only using 1 GB of RAM). Maybe most indies will like it, but AAA games will still be developed the same way they are today, with a PC and X1 version being created separated. Even if you could do one single version for both, PC + X1 software sales combined are still substantially less than just the PS4 version in 95% of the cases. So still, the guy on the suit doesn't give a damn about what their devs find hard or not. They are paid to do what he wants. The only ways I can see MS (if the don't do X1.5) getting an advantage is: A- Sony release the PS4K but screws OG PS4 owners with things like PS4K exclusives, games running badly on OG unit, exclusive PSVR content. So people get angry and MS gets more sales. B - Sony focus on a 500 bucks PS4K and doesn't release a PS4 slim or at least cuts cost on the unit and keeps it at, at least 300 bucks. MS releases a 200 bucks X1 slim and people start buying it because low pricepoint >>>> better graphics (proof: PS2, Wii). |
I Don't think that a Price drop is enought for Microsoft, to achieve that, they already are 50US$ Cheaper, and are loosing by a lot, if PS4K, is 40000US$, there will still be the original PS4, for 350US$, and how Microsoft, can close a gap of more than 20 Millions of units ?, the Generation don't have enought time for Microsoft, to make a Comeback.
