They had to do something, so their console stays competitive.

As oppose to playing catch with a game they're already loosing, I think it'd be better for them to just wait to introduce a whole new Xbox in 2018. Full BC and upgradable through external add ons.

Here you have it running 1440p upscaled to 4k, at 60 fps on the PS4k (neo), and on the left side, the Xbox One version running 900p and 30fps.

 

It would be 2 slow years for them, if the multiplat versions all looked and run worse out of all 3 consoles, on their own one.
