In the meantime, the global average internet speed is 5.6 Mbps.

It won't be forever. Ultra High Speed is rapidly spreading in the two key gaming markets in the USA and Japan. Some European countries are starting to ramp up too.

I liken it to the situation here like in 1997, pretty much no one had broadband internet. By 2007 everyone and their grandma had it and WIFI to boot.

The other big difference today is Comcast is using a tech called DOCSIS 3.1 which can get massively more bandwidth from just existing regular cable networks.

It's increasing way too slowly. It was 2.9 Mbps in Q4 2012 and 5.0 Mbps in Q4 2015. That's an average of 0.5Mbps. Maybe in 10 years the global internet will allow for everyone to play games via streaming - in 1080p.
