It's part of the game, if your opponents are breaking your combos then you're being too predictable and not respecting their options or you don't fully get the mechanics or how to approach the game yet.
The system in KI means that it requires more mental input from the player rather than trying to get one hit into a confirm then combo as the's an added layer to keep in mind.
