But let's get real: The "required parity" clause for devs, forcing them to offer 4.0 and 4.5 compatable games, will not last forever.
PS4 will sooner or later be deprecated, even if it continues in production as a lower tier console... And PS4.5 exclusives will gain traction,
once the install base justifies that move... Which again, isn't fundamentally different to a scenario where PS4.5 didn't happen but PS5 happened sooner.

Thats the one major part of your enitr post I disagree with. I've kinda said this before this announent that we are about to see the beginning of the cross generational generation of consoles. Where there is no longer a 5/6/7 but just a platfomr that has support for everything PlayStation or Xbox.

I think people are (as expected) blowing all this outta proportion. it will make no difference whatsoever.

in 10 years from now, devs should be allowed to make a game for the the PS5.5, that would still at least be able to run on the current PS4 even if it's at 720p@30fps@low settings.

the real important thing here, is that son  is settig themselves up to not have to toss away their install base everytime they upgrade their console.

but the responses I've seen in this thread tho......damn.... I just wanna know when it's comes out so I could buy one and sell my current PS4 for $150 or something. either way, PS4 install base goes up +1. And that's what a lot of people seem to be blind to. If someone just came and glossed over this thread, they would think that the Neo makes the core PS4 completely obsolete and that it will just stop working and playing/getting games.
