That NeoGAF dude posted a load of nonsense that piggybacked on previous rumors. How the NX rumor mill works: 1. Start with a rumor that sounds believable to the majority of people. A positive side effect of that (for the "leakers") is that it creates truth through repetition. Eventually some things are taken for granted by the audience because many people have said virtually the same thing. The screen controller comes up repeatedly because Nintendo has to have a gimmick, but the alleged innovation is obviously derived from what Nintendo did in the recent past. However, the slightest bit of common sense would let everyone realize that Nintendo wouldn't commit the same glaring mistake twice in a row. Nintendo is going to make mistakes, no doubt, but they are going to be new ones. Funny anecdote: When Nintendo's Revolution was announced and still largely a secret, the most commonly speculated controller was a GC look-alike with a touchscreen in the middle. Why? Because the DS came out not too long ago and it had a touchscreen. At the time (mid 2005) the DS wasn't even successful and got outsold by the PSP. The Wii U isn't successful either, but it doesn't stop people from going with a screen controller for NX. On the bright side though, as soon as a screen controller is mentioned, you pretty much know that it's all made up. |
The screen controller wasn't a mistake, and it's not a rumor. It's coming back.
