A closed off/locked off console is not a smart design anymore if it ever was, all that's going to happen in that scenario is Sony/MS will eventually release the PS5/XB2 and outpace Nintendo as well, at least in that scenario Nintendo has some way to allow existing NX owners to upgrade their hardware as well. Who knows. Maybe if you live close enough to people with an SCD around you (specifically Japan) maybe you could just purchase the NX "dummy" controller and play full blown games borrowing from neighboring SCDs. Stuff like that could let people who spend as little as maybe $99 into the NX ecosystem. |
I'm not saying this will happen, because I don't think it will, but the patent pretty explicitely accounts for such a situation.
