Whether you like him as a character or not jyou can't deny he is badass and damn fun to play as :D

We don't know if his story is over or not, one arc of it is complete but GOW III ended with a cliffhanger where Kratos kills himself but then his body mysteriously vanishes and the world is in chaos.
