its possible that the portable variant of NX might not be able to handle some of the more power demanding games that the console has and the SCD would allow it to play those games without the need of buying the console to play them. So lets say

NX Console-$299, similar power to XB1/PS4.

NX Portable-$199, similar power to Wii U

SCD-$99, can boost Console performance closer to XB1.5/PS4K & Portable performance closer to Console.

I think though Nintendo will want their 1st party games to be able to run more or less on both the "static" home console(s) and the semi-portable/portable variations.

Even with third party stuff, that might be Nintendo's ticket to reasonable third party sales, if the portable component(s) can adequetely run higher end third party games, then those games will likely perform better given A) full access to both Nintendo home and portable audiences B) the novelty of being able to play these games on the road gives third party Nintendo ports a tangiable reason to the consumer to choose the Nintendo version.

So maybe

NX Console - $299

NX Portable/Semi Portable - $250

SCD - $169.99

I would probably lean a bit more in that direction. That's not bad still though, today to buy a 3DS XL + Wii U will run you $500 ... NX Portable + SCD for instance would be $419 in this scenario ... a decent amount cheaper if like to play Nintendo games at home and on the road.

I think also this may be why the NX home console appears to be coming out first this fall ... they may have to wait a little bit to get the more powerful type of portable that they want at the price they want, but when they have that powerful portable device it'll make the entire NX ecosystem much more flexible and give developers some real options ... ie: Square-Enix can now make Dragon Quest XI for both the home NX and mobile NX if the mobile part is about 1/4-1/5 the home console.

$99 would be a really sweet spot to hit for the SCD, though. If they can get something that cheap out and launch it with the NX console, the thing would fly off shelves. They'd just need a marketing hook for it.

I need to do more research, though. Very exciting, and directly in line with what I think the NX is, eccept I definitely didn't consider Nintendo basically launching a cloud network. I don't think people understand how massive this would be if I'm understanding this correctly and if Nintendo pulls this off. Screw mobile, this alone could be a business for them entirely separate from gaming. This is world changing shit lol like I can't fathom. I have to be misunderstanding something.
