Firstly a ps4k with anything beyond just 4k media output I don't think is happening.
Remember Sony hasn't said ANYTHING about this, it's pure speculation or even corporate sabotage via social media and rumors. Social media destroyed the Xbox1, these days Microsoft has a horde working for them in the social media circle.
Pushing 4k media is in their best interest since they sell 4k sets and media. I mean I can buy sub $100 android boxes that will push 4k content, the ps4 really should have been able to as well at launch, it's just a testament to how long before release the design was complete.
The constant noise that the ps4 is underpowered, really is irrelevant since this kind of talk from the master race has always been coming out of the peanut gallery.
Now one console being underpowered vs another of the same generation, that's something that's always going to be exploited since people are still looking to buy and want to know what train to get on.
Short console lifespans or mid generation hardware upgrades that split gaming specs will destroy the console market.
If they (the manufacturer) and the consumer really think this type of future is nessasary they need to bring back the cartridge slot. Go to a hybrid cartridge disk format. Where a developer could release a cartridge along with a disk, with assets on both the cartridge and disk, even addition hardware chips on the cartridge.
Someone like Ubisoft or 2k could release a cartridge with an engine on it that then could be used for multiple titles, and only require a new disk.
