Also, Rol's right about MP3: Corruption. It was one of the ONLY TWO innovations of FPS controls this gen. The other one was MP: Hunters on the DS.

Ok, but it's only an innovation for consoles.  Mouse/keyboard is still better, and now that those are supported on consoles, finally, mouse/keyboard is the best choice for FPS.

dual-analog was the same kind of evolution.  That started with Turok, I believe...around there...and it was an optional control scheme to classic stuff, like Goldeneye.

All you have is a less accurate pointing device than a mouse.  That's the only difference that the Wiimote provides.  Now, the stylus might be more accurate.  I haven't used it for FPS.  The DS is such a bad platform for FPS, though.

I'm all for console FPS games catching up to their PC equivalents, but the Wiimote is just a small step in the right direction.

No, it's actually an innovation for GAMING.  Not just consoles.

Mouse and keyboard wasn't an evolution or a revolution or anything special.  FPS games were created on the PC, where mouse and keyboard were the expected controls.

Dual-analog WAS NOT a revolution.  It was a slight (expected) upgrade from one analog and the C-pad of the N64 controller.  The C buttons in GoldenEye replaced the WASD of PC shooters, and basically served as a wonky joystick.  You had 8 directions including 2 buttons at a time.  Yes, the mouse and keyboard combo was more efficient, but the analog and C-pad of GoldenEye was the control scheme that gave FPS games a fighting chance at all on consoles, and that was on a Nintendo console mind you.

The C-Pad growing into an analog stick wasn't 1% the innovation that the D-Pad growing into an analog stick was.

There have been very few innovations in FPS gameplay as it is.  The first one was the change from 2-D to 3-D.  Wolfenstein and Doom were 2-D if you looked at a top-down map.  You couldn't aim up and down.  Quake was the first game to use 3-D models instead of pre-rendered sprites (only a graphical upgrade, not a gameplay enhancement), and the first game to use true 3-D as opposed to 2-D with height information rendered in 3-D (an actual gameplay enhancement, because it adds a new dimension of aiming).

SINCE WOLFENSTEIN'S KEYBOARD/MOUSE COMBO, the first CONTROL REVOLUTION of the FPS genre was Metroid Prime: Hunters on the DS.  The next was supposed to be Red Steel.  It was ambitious as balls, but fucked up with shitty swordplay and overall sloppy presentation and design (but hilarious story and dialogue).  Metroid Prime 3: Corruption got it right and it's already being followed by other Wii shooters.  You're right in saying that a mouse and keyboard is just about the same as a Wii remote and nunchuck, but here's the difference: if I'm on the Wii, I get to POINT AND SHOOT, at my actual enemies, on the screen in front of me, moving my hand in 3-D space in the real world, and if I'm on the PC, I'm moving my hand on a horizontal plane next to my screen, to control a vertical plane in front of me.  Guess which one is closer to POINTING AND SHOOTING in real life.

Now we have 2 new ways to play FPS games: with a stylus, D-Pad, and L button, or with an IR pointer, analog stick, and a few buttons.  Thank Nintendo for both.

I'm talking control innovations only here.  Keyboard and mouse is finally getting a challenge.  I'm sure you don't care since you're such a PC elitist, so I'm sure keyboard and mouse will still be good enough for you in 20 years when we're all plugged into crazy virtual reality headsets anyway.
