This has more to do with how games are rated in the west, rather than tangible pressure from the west (i.e., this change wasn't spawned from complaints). It seems that this minor change allowed them to keep the game within their desired rating, whereas not changing it would have led to a more mature rating (and thus, less sales).

It's a shame that creators have to conform to ratings, but rating systems have been a part of many entertainment mediums for a long time.
