So we can recharge the number of uses I'm guessing, but this also makes it sound like there will be a lot of different spells which Tabata said there wouldn't be. Maybe it will be like Type 0's spells that have multiple kinds of fire, thunder and blizzard magic that react in different ways.

Those are the natural elements like fire, blizzard, thunder. Then you will be able to upgrade those into Fira.. etc. Other types of non elemental magic are associated with the royal ring. Only Noctis can cast those and they are not collectable like the natural elements. They haven't revealed how the system will work.
