Where has this thread been all my time on this site? Seriously, I've always been more into manga than anime and my bookshelves are overflowing with them.

I've got tons of recommendations on classics, but I'll restrict myself to what I'm reading currently.

1. World Trigger

I'm a sucker for action done well, and this is top notch stuff. Not the art so much (though that is good too), but the way that strategies and complex tactics form the base of combat. There are special powers, but none of them are ridiculously OP and the ability to execute a plan and coordinate troop movements is key to victory. It's as if real combat was somehow transitioned into a shonen world. The characters are also likable and interesting, with plenty of comedy sprinkled throughout.

2. Otoyome Gatari

A mix of historical and slice of life, it follows a woman in Central Turkey wed to a younger man in the 1800's. Their romance is understated and cute with much of the story being about daily life and customs in that time/place. The author is a master researcher and the setting never feels like 'Japan in everything but name', focusing instead on exploring a new culture.

3. Boku no Hero wa Academia

A solidly built shonen superheros series with a likable main character and some clever uses of superpowers. Despite some standard shonen tropes, the author keeps you guessing and the comedy is always solid.

4. Boku dake gainai machi (Erased)

It's hard not to spoil this one, so I'll have to leave a bit out. The story revolves around a struggling manga artist who has a bleak outlook on life. Every so often he travels back in time a few minutes with the chance to correct something that has gone wrong, often saving someone's life. He sees his ability as a burden, but when the unthinkable happens, he reaches for his power with both hands and finds himself all the way back in fifth grade, seeking to uncover a serial killer that once went uncaught for decades.

Sounds like I'm not the only person who feels this way

The thread is still fresh, which is why there hasn't been a manga thread yet. I've got quite a few manga myself, and I hope to have shelves of them some day, haha.

You have some interesting recommendations. I have seen World Trigger many times, but haven't picked it up, which is odd since it looks like it's from Shonen Jump and I love reading from their magazine. I've wanted to read Boku No Hero, but haven't gotten around to it, The art style looks pretty good and fun, and I love the western style heroes I saw bits of in it. I recently caught up to a new manga, so I may give that one a look next.

The 4th one Boku Dake Ga Nai Machi (Erased) I recall being really popular lately, especially the anime. I didn't even know it had a manga. Seeing how that has a lot of buzz around it now, I feel I need to give this one a look...

That last one, Otoyome Gatari, looks pretty different from your usual manga, and the art is soo detailed. A lot of time and care went into the art for it. It seems really interesting and a nice break from usual actiony or school life stuff, hah.
