If you think sadness is a primary motivating factor for Kratos throughout the series, then it's like you never bothered to play any of the games. What drives Kratos is the burden of guilt he suffers for what he did to his family. GoW1 sets this up with Kratos seeking to have his memories erased. He isn't confronting his actions head on and is trying to sweep it under a rug. Which is why the forgiveness offered from the Gods means nothing. Then this comes full circle when towards the end of GoW3, Kratos is forced into his own psyche. And with the help of Pandora, Kratos is finally able to overcome his guilt by forgiving himself. His wife even says as much to him: to be forgiven you must find the power to forgive yourself. Which is what he does and unlocks the full power of Hope, from Pandora's Box. His sadness still remains but its not the defining emotion of his character. He is no longer angry because he has been able to finally get rid of the guilt he had been living with for so many years. That burden is lifted off his shoulders by the end of GoW3.
So yes, he is no longer the angry guy many of you still define him as. I'm sure he will still have anger as a feature of his character but it won't be a primary force for his character going forward, if they choose to stick with him. |
Ofcourse guilt was a factor. Don't pretend like i said it wasn't.
Guilt can make you sad, and i said he was sad.
