This is what I hope as well. Something fresh. I wouldn't mind a new IP but I see why they'd continue the God of War saga. It's not like Jak & Daxter where it wouldn't make sense changing the protagonists in Jak & Daxter 4.
Hack and slash as a genre is not as popular as in the past and establishing a new popular hack and slash IP could prove quite difficult. Santa Monica's main team spends large amount of money so naturally they have to strive for multimillion sales.
There are many potentially great mythological stories to be told and I'd very likely be interested in a God of War 4 with fresh mechanics, a new protagonist and a new setiing.
