I agree somewhat. It's when they start using that tax money for things that aren't necessary for society however that it gets annoying.

For starters I know local councils have a habit of wasting tax money on ugly ass statues that nobody wanted. And then wasting more money cleaning/repairing those statues when they are vandalised for being so ugly...

Then there's all the millions/billions that governments just give away to other countries. Yeah I get this is usually in the case of disasters (natural or otherwise) or whatever but I still think people should be able to choose whether they want to donate their money to that cause rather than having the government deciding for them.

Plus here in the UK you there's TV tax too. Now that's just a joke. Having to pay tax to the BBC just to watch TV. Doesn't matter if you don't watch the BBC, doesn't matter if you think the vast majority of their content is complete crap, you still have to pay for it? Nah, that's just wrong. I'm just glad that Netflix/Amazon don't count for it so I can avoid paying it. Wish I could watch live sport without having to not only pay for that but also pay the BBC for doing fuck all, but I can't because of stupid governments and their pathetic unjustifiable taxes.

Oh and then there's inheritance tax too. Pay tax on everything you earn and everything you own already, but if you want to pass it on to others after you die you have to pay tax on it again? Because the first tax wasn't enough or something? Then they die and it's taxed a third time? And so on and so on...

You can blame the government or you can blame the populace or electorate.  In the US for example federal income tax from 1950 to 1990 fell dramatically because the people elected people such as Raegan overwhelmingly in part to do so.  Now, plenty of arguments to be made both ways and how it affected the national debt, but every decision we make has consequences.

If people feel strongly enough one way things do change, why we no longer have monarchs with actual power in vast majority of the world.
