I get what you're saying, stopping players from getting powerful weapons is referred to as map control. The Halo series has also put a focus on that.

However, giving all players powerful weapons creates a different problem. Frankly, I'm just not having fun playing a game with people instagibing with shotguns. I'd rather have the controls of this game with the gunplay of UT3. But then we still got the health pack thing which just doesn't fit in muliplayer shooters like this.

What problem is that?, if we start off with *good* weapons from the start then it simply comes down to actual skill and knowledge of the map. Halo's method like you said puts focus on map control which also means weapon control, the previous Halos were guilty of this where people knew where weapons would spawn and actively go out of their way to eliminate players who were clearly trying to go for that Rocket launcher or Spartan laser, that itself isn't really all that fair because you know that I know I want that powerful gun, only difference is you want it for yourself and to win the match so you would prefer to deny the competition the chances of obtaining such a weapon that could win them the match. To me that strategy just comes off as someone who is afraid that once someone else has a better weapon or the same powerful weapon, that their skills might be better than your own.

I'm not a fan of DOOM's multiplayer this time around (all I care about is the SP at this point and it's only saving grace for me), but I do see how it should be different from Halo, not every FPS MP game has to be about map control only, throwing weapons around and giving us the basic mundane weapons only instills the need to find the better weapons, memorize where they are and then horde them until you win.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
