But tracking a few LEDS is hardly going to be the showstopper here. With libraries like OpenCV, this should actually be fairly simple. And even if OpenCV turns out to be unsuitable because it is too slow, tracking a few LEDs shouldn't be too much of a problem. While I have admittedly no experience, the basic strategy to track the LEDs actually seems rather simple to me: If a certain LED was located at coordinate 100,100 in the previous captured picture, and at coordinate 80,110 in the current captured picture, its coordinates in the next picture should be relative close to 60,120...
Anyways, even if they absolutely couldn't manage to track the LEDs in the short 2ms you mentioned, it would basically still work, even if it wasn't quite as fast as it should be.
