The majority of Consumers do not, and most likely never will. [I see the PC consoles replacing the normal consoles in the future, you get best of both worlds. PC's not belonging in the living room is kinda ironic, 20 years ago Microsoft was talking to bringing Windows to the living room?]
Umm , that's called the Media center PC, and no its not ironic, because many consumer do not want a PC hooked up to their TV.. History for the past 30 years shows that, if that was the case the Media Center PC would have replaced the game console a long time ago. [I'm already shocked how game streaming hasn't rolled out yet, a lot of people have fast internet now (100Mb/s) and Gigabit ethernet is slowly rolling out. In 5-10 years everyone should have Gigabit connection or even higher].
There is places that still only have Dial up.. Or require satalite..or only 3G/4G off a smartphone as their internet access point. Its not going to be Everywhere, not even close. |
Again Xbox as a platform was the 2nd go at making the "Media Center PC" be the main box for your living Room, now when your talking streaming for the Living Room SmartTV and Mobile are the Main choice for streaming entertainment in the living room..not a media center PC.
I doubt very much the Media Center PC will or is ever going to replace the console before the streaming box's or SmartTV does it 1st.
