Stereotyping much? Most profitable because of digital copies instead of physical and longer lifespan of the game. Also CD Projekt Red attracted customers to their own games store: https://www.gog.com/

But this has nothing to do with the thread.

Sony has basically free money lying around in the PC and Mobile market, and that's the same for the PSVR if it comes to PC. If they make their own gaming client and don't use Steam or something else, then yes, it's 59.99$ for each digital sale. Just like Microsoft gets 59.99$ for selling Quantum Break on Windows 10 Store. There isn't even a physical copy for PC as far as I know.

Basically almost zero effort and investment for a lot of money.

That's not free profit nor garuntees profit, there's the obvious risk of any given game underperforming on a platform but there's a much larger risk specifically for a company like Sony in releasing their flagship software on competing platforms. There is a monetary value Sony has internally placed on what 1st party development brings to the table. Removing that (going Multiplat) is literally devaluing the company and completely in the opposite direction that they appear to be moving. If you think it's as cut and dry as "more platforms = more profit" then you are sorely mistaken. PlayStation as a brand retains far more value with its first party studios/ip than not, and if you want to talk extreme cases then we look to Nintendo who would have a tough time surviving at all without such a strong portfolio.

if more platforms = more profit, why is MGSV, a game on three platforms, having a tough time outselling MGS4, a game on one platform?

Maybe because the game was hostageware until now? Just like Bloodborne (third-party developer)? That game could easily sell another 3-4 million on Xbox One and PC. And maybe even Xbox 360 and PS3 since it could easily run on last-gen.

One last thing we haven't mentioned yet, Sony could require people to own a PS4 in order to play the PC version. It would let people play the game on the go for example. Just imagine that with cross-cloudsaves and cross-platform multiplayer.

But that's not the topic of this thread, if Sony releases the PSVR on PC they would need to bring the VR exclusives over to PC too otherwise it wouldn't sell very well.
