I disagree, the xperia branding just really has not caught on..so rebranding the xpera smartphone's they already make to become one brand smartphone and fold the Sony mobile section of the company into the new smartphone development subsidiary.

Would be better use, because what many are saying the net of selling at a profit but such little numbers its a wash..it would I think better off to run the xperia brand into a playstation phone brand. Why is A) software goes to iOS & Android

B) the playstation Phone could be a single model that is geared to gamers to be a true "gamer's" smartphone.

The market share would be constrained, but its goal instead of trying to sell to everyone is to continue to keep PlayStation users engaged into the playstation Eco system..even with the smartphone they may buy.

Because then you'd get the same situation you have now only worse: low profit margins, and ridiculously low volumes.

The Xperia branding might not have "caught on", but they are still selling ~25 million phones a year, and that is a helluva lot more than a Playstation phone would sell. If you follow your idea, they'd probably get numbers in the realm of 1 million phones a year, tops. I mean, I'm a rather dedicated gamer, and no way in hell would I buy a Playstation phone (and I'm a Playstation fan). Furthermore, I would consider buying an Xperia. My point is that branding the phones Playstation would scare off soooo many consumers, and if you try to make it a "dedicated gamer phone", it would scare off even more. Sony would be a lot better off just keeping the Xperia brand than doing that.

Again Sony stated they are not going for market share but profit! Consumers for smart phones do not buy expensive games on their smartphone's right?

But gamers in consoles Do!

If playstation gamers know that every game made for your smartphone has physical controller support instead of only touch screen only control inputs..they would not be targeting the average smartphone user for software sales. Thus than you would have console " like" game pricing on smartphone's instead cheaper costs in games.

If they are going to bring higher quality gaming on to smartphone's do you think its going to not be tailored made to sell to gamers anyway?

Trying to sell say $29.99+ games on digital downloads for average smartphone consumer's just does not fly, so already its going to have low sales even with massive number of other smartphone's out there.

But again Sony stated they ate bring more console quality games to smartphone's, I would say there is a good chance a playstation Smartphone is in the cards due to pricing of software mobile smartphone consumers not really shown to purchase software in that price range. A console gamer on the other hand may or be more inclined to do so.
