With that I can fully agree.
To add, I have moved on to laptops, which are even more akward sitting next to the tv with a hdmi cable sticking out of it.
Switching inputs on my amp (to check what's on tv for example) caused windows to change the resolution, crashing a lot of games in the process.
It's just not that relaxing as a PC will always have that work environment feeling.
Maybe a Steam box solves some of those problems, yet why bother, already have a streamlined experience with guaranteed base performance.
But I still don't think a mid gen hardware upgrade is a good idea. That guaranteed base performance will suffer, plus value for money ratio will go down. That last one is maybe not a problem for the hardcore players, yet our low priced hardware depends on the masses buying the product as well.
