If you bought DLC that included new characters, you upgraded to a version not compatible with players that didn't upgrade.

You can't play online with somebody playing a different version. SFIV, SSFIV, SSFIV:AE, and USFIV are not compatible with each other. You can only play against opponents playing the same version you have.

No excuses, that sucked. KI doesn't have that problem, if you bought Season 1 only you still can play with people who purchase Season 2 and 3 content.

Understood, lesser evil. But still the pricing per DLC is quite ridiculous.
