We do get a bad rap but, to be fair, the US accepts more legal immigrants and more refugees than any other country per year. While I can't find it, I know I also read that we receive the highest amount of illegal immigrants annually as well.
I certainly wish they'd make it easier to migrate legally here, but it's really a problem of competition and demand right now.
