Pre-ordering PS VR means that Sony can show those sales numbers to developers. These developers than have reason to develop for PS VR. If no one preorders PS VR -- then no one will develop for PS VR and the system will die.

This is a critical time for VR and you need to early adopt in order to help it grow.

People don't even buy their 60$ exclusives on PS4 (look what happend with Driveclub studio), let alone buying a 500$ useless add-on. I don't think it will ever sell more then 100k this gen.

Not to mention people are saving up for the PS4.5 now instead of PSVR
