Talk of a closed ecosystem for playstation games or content on a playstation phone is backward. It is far more likely and sensible that PlayStation appears on other manufacturers devices over time. Far more likely. That's where the real money is.

funny how the closed smartphone brand sells more phones and makes most of profits than all the other adroid manufacturs combined. And the story isnt  uch different with consoles over open Platforms like PC

 

The reasons behind Apples profits is more to do with the Apple and IPhone brand. 

 

My brother used to work for Apple and still has many friends there. They're closed system doesn't make them much profit as much as it saves them having to pay people licensing. Their hardware makes stupid profit but Sony makes really good profit from the camera sales. 

 

Apple mostly lose money or break even from their closed system, but they use it to build and strengthen the brand which in return brings in huge profits from phone sales, accessories and other Apple devices. The profit margins on the phones alone negate any loss. 

 

I with Kowenicki thou. If Sony want to turn their mobile division profitable they must either up their sales or sell it off. I don't think a Playstation branded phone will make them much money as it will mostly only appeal to harcore Playstation fans, not your moms and dad's. Playstation fans do not buy everything Playstation like Apple fans or we would have seen better sales on all their other ranges. 

Sony needs to:

1) find a better partner and improve their strategy in America for their mobile division.

2) release their apps and services on as many mobile phones to build brand awareness and increase access and profits across services.

3) offer deals across their products. 

- Yeah and the reasons you have mentioned why Apple makes so much money is because of their closed Ecosystem.

 

-You do realize that a PlayStation Phone doesnt need a high install base to make a profit? Just like the PS4 doesnt need a high install base as 40 Million would be nothing in the smartphone bussines. What makes profits for consoles and handhelds are the royalty fees for each game sold, which are 10%. SAMSUNG and other android manufactures dont make a cent from purchases on the Google store, and even google and Apple make nothing dueto small Royalty fees.

Games with Royalty Fees, Sony exclusives without Royalty Fees and PS+ it would make more than enough money. Even more than Apple because they dont really make their own software.

And i think there would be a lot of people who would like to have a smartphone thats supports physical media to be traded in, one with real buttons and a smartphone which has a store clean from any BS games or copy and past games.
