Our TV's have upscaling. What benefit would this have? Don't all 4K TV's upscale? Then again new HDMI, and Blu-Ray 4K in the slim model would be enough for me. |
A minor benefit is to avoid switching resolutions which causes new handshakes with tv and amplifier. It adds a few seconds on ps3, black screen, flash, new resolution. Depending on where the scaler sits in the chain it could improve visuals a bit and render the UI in 4K. That's less likely to happen though, but you never know. They've reserved a lot of memory for the OS which could be used to display the UI in 4k, and maybe a 4K web browser.
