How would it hurt Sony if they don't buy the PS4 and instead the PS4.5. Not only that but everyone who was still on the fence would buy it. In the end it's great publicity and will overall increase net sales. It's the same with NX. If anything Nintendo would be glad that Wii U sales drop because of NX, because that means there are still people who would actually buy their new console. |
One of console gamings defining qualities are the long refresh cycles and benefits that come with optimization for a static platform, such as stability, support, cost saving on incremental upgrades etc. This new way of releasing products might turn a lot of gamers off.
