eh, I suppose it's not absolutely necessary but I prefer to see them than not. Besides there have been occasions I've wondered why something wasn't working only to look down and see I was pressing the wrong button

Never been an issue for me except when I'm using my Hori figth pad. Which has the R1 and L1 mixed in with the triangle,square,circle, etc.
