low supply of pre-orders + scalpers
sony did the same with the ps4 too. they released pre-orders only to a number they were 100% confident they could achieve. as we got closer to release date and their first shipment numbers probably became more solid they opened up more pre-orders at least 2 or 3 more times.
basically. great news to see things sell out but doesn't read too much into it either.
