Have you read the article? All of the companies mentioned offer mid-range & low end phones, Samsung Per-handset profit is dragged down by their low-end and mid-range phones. Not to mention, Android manufacturers don't make the OS that comes installed in their devices, they get to install it for free, along with all of Google services that make Android... Android. Almost zero investments on software development.
Apple, on the other hand, sells the hardware and their software. In addition, their per-handset proft isn't dragged down by low-end phones, they don't make them.
