Not true at all. There's nothing different about physical and digital that wouldn't allow them to award physical purchases. Nintendo has already made it clear that they wouldn't allow Wii U/3DS games to earn you PP, but they would start that system on the NX. If the above had any truth to it, they would have said the same thing about physical purchases working on MN in the future. They had a work around for CN. If they wanted to, they'd have one for MN.

But they don't, because they don't.

They've been clear. MN only awards for digital purchases.

They won't be blamed for doing anything, because the advent of digital only consoles will be seen by the masses a great, console redefining move into modernity.
