they definitely could make a new model which could end up being quite a success. They Should make the console smaller just like the Wii U is, which has the same CPU architecture. They just have to remove the powersupply and make it external.
They also should change the controller, make it a PS3 controller but in a PS4 Design using the same Plastic shell etc.
